I started creating icons since 2016. I studied by myself and from a friend(his name is Kan, founder of Justicon) who created icon before me and I read many articles about how to create icons. And thank you Scott Lewis who wrote this article(6 Easy Steps To Better Icon Design) which is help me a lot. And at Icon Utopia Justas, he has many awesome articles about icons. Anyone who wants to start creating icon can found a great resource there.

Most of my icons are conceptual icons which are drawn in the bigger size. Let say bigger than 48px artboard.

I created my own adobe illustrator template for 64px icon for 36 artboards which you can free download it below.

Setting In Adobe Illustrator Preferences

Before start drawing I’d like you to check the setting in Illustrator so you won’t mess up your icon later.

Set Tolerance to 1 px and Snap to Point 1 px

For this 64px icon template I set Gridline every 32px and Subdivisions 32
If you draw the other size of icon you have to change this number. It will help you see line path better when you draw on artbord.
